Kingwood 1st Ward Giving Tree

Please join us in this Christmas Season service opportunity. The Kingwood 1st Ward is sponsering a Giving Tree that will allow us to anonymously fill someones Christmas Wish.

Where: Foyer, November 29th, December 6th and 13th.

What: Find a gift request card for someones Christmas wish.

How: Bring your wrapped gift to someone in the Elders Quorum Presidency for delivery to the families.

When: Gifts need to be received by December 16th, 2009.

HAAM

Our stake has been asked to help with HAAM on the third Tuesday of every month.

next HAAM date: Dec 15th
When: 9-10:30 AM
Where: 1204 Est 1st Street, Humble 77338It is by the humble post office, there is a resale shop, and then across the street is another building where clients go for interviews etc. You will go to this building. There is a door that is marked "volunteers only". Just knock on the volunteer door / walk on in. Irene said it is best to park in the grass by the dumpsters rather than in their parkinglot.

Babysitting: If you need a babysitter in order to go, give me a call, I will watch your kids! jamie - 281-312-2688

Cannery 101
As we work towards home storage goals for our families, we should take advantage of the regional cannery on Hafer Road as a source for long-term storage products. Please keep the attached price list to plan your orders. Our stake has assigned dates for using dry pack facilities. The remaining dates this year are:

Wed Dec 2

The hours available are 6:00-9:00 PM

I am asked to call our stake person a couple of weeks in advance to be sure items are in stock. I feel everyone ought to check out the cannery --- even if you only purchase a prepackaged case of wheat of beans to practice cooking. Pick a date and call me (281.358-6416). I'd be happu to go with you. Also, FYI read the ensign article in the Sept issue "Two Cans of Corn".

Here is a winter woup that uses food storage canned items and pasta. A quick healthy way to rotate your pantry.

Debby F.'s Pasta y Fagioli

1/2 lb lean ground beef;
1 clove garlic - finely chopped
1/2 cup each:
chopped onion
celery and carrots
1 Tbs olive oil.
1 Can each:
ranch style beans
white beans
stewed chopped tomatoes,
beef broth
3/4 cup white grape or apple juice
1 cup small elbow pasta (cook separately)
2 bay leaves
pinch of cloves
parsley
salt and pepper

In a large pot, brown ground beef and garlic in olive oil; add vegetables and cook 5 mintes or so stirring frequently. Stir in juice, broth, tomatoes, bay leaves and cloves. Simmer until vegetables are tender.

Meanwhile, cook pasta al dente in salted water and drain. Stir beans and their liquids into soup, heat through; add cooked pasta, parsley, salt and pepper to taste. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and french bread.

Serves 6!
